Episode 30 – The Elephant in the Room: Racism in the Industry

Standard

In this week’s episode, we talk about an obvious problem that many people do not want to discuss. This week we are discussing Racism. It is something that is happening all around us and sadly, unless you are affected by it, you may not realize it’s happening.

We sit down for a round table with three different guests, each presenting their own unique view on the topic. Alicia Cardenas of Sol Tribe Custom Tattoo and Body Piercing in Denver, Colorado gives her views as a body piercer, tattooer and shop owner.  Miro Hernandez of San Antonio’s Dandyland Custom Tattoo and Professional Body Piercing presents his observations over multiple years as a board member and piercer .Lastly, Trevor Thomas of BrainDrops Body Piercing in San Francisco, California offers his perspective as a male African American business owner and body piercer.

So without further ado, listen in as we talk about what it’s like to be a person of color in our industry, catering to different clientele, and what we can do to help heal the industry and change our outlooks.

Alicia, Miro and Trevor can all be found on their Instagrams or in their studios respectively.
